Joseph Smith teachings I want to easily get back to (click here for post)

This linked post on Joseph Smith's teachings is the only actually important post on this blog. Much of what we say we "know" we did not learn for ourselves, but had to learn from Joseph Smith. For example, we all know that the archangel Michael was Adam, and that that "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man", but we have forgotten that we only know those things because Joseph Smith explained them to us. Joseph Smith explained far more that we are not conversant with, and frequently we have made up traditions out of thin air that directly contradict the truths he explained to us. Frequently each sentence of his teachings has a wealth of knowledge it in. So we ought to look at what he taught us and learn from the great head of our dispensation, of whom the Savior said "this generation shall have my word through you".

Brigham Young on when the spirit enters the body

This quote from Brigham Young seems very relevant to the modern issue of abortion

“They [Adam and Eve] were now prepared, as we are, to form bodies or tabernacles for the reception of pure and holy spirits. When the body is prepared, at the proper time, the spirit enters the tabernacle, and all the world of mankind in their reflections and researches must come to this conclusion, for the fact is they can come to no other—that when the mother feels life there is an evidence that the spirit from heaven has entered the tabernacle. ” (Brigham Young, “Philoosphy of Man”, JD 18:257)
