I so tired of people expressing a desire that they will continue to learn how to take advantage of the atonement in their lives.
It isn’t hard. We have horribly misconstrued the doctrine and wrapped it in mystery and that should not be the case.
If you want to take advantage of Christ’s atonement, heed the counsel he repeatedly gave. Go forth, and sin no more.
You cannot do that in a spirit of faith and fail to take advantage of the atonement. And you won’t do it without a spirit of faith in the first place.
We have wrapped the doctrine in so much mystery because we don’t understand the first bit of it and have become so deluded on this point that we think we don’t even know how to take full advantage of the atonement.
But the answer is simple. You press forward diligently along the path, and you hold firmly to the word of God, just as is portrayed in Lehi’s dream, and you will find yourself taking advantage of the benefits of the atonement.
And there really isn’t any other way. Does Christ accept an offering by some means other than that which he has prescribed? No. So why don’t we just listen to his perfectly plain teachings and know with perfect certainty that obeying them is the only route to partaking of his blessings.
We should not be sidetracked, pondering what to do. Christ, who performed the atonement, has given us commandments. Let us not doubt that he would make it incredibly plain so that no one can misunderstand what we need to do to take advantage of his atonement. And he has done so. And all we need to do is accept his plain teachings on what to do instead of spiritualizing it all into a great mystery.
Do we really believe he would perform the mighty atonement, but not use words that were perfectly plain describing how to take advantage of it? One requires infinite suffering and death. The other just requires words. If he would go through infinite suffering and death we shouldn’t wonder that he was willing to give us plain words. Just follow his perfectly plain teachings and stop making a spiritual mystery out of the plainest words ever spoken to mankind.
