You don’t care for the sheep if you keep them with the wolves

I am disgusted that John Dehlin was allowed to remain a member of the church 10 years after he was actively trying to get people out of the church.

By utterly failing their duty to excommunicate him John Dehlin’s local leaders greatly increased the harm he has done. It would have been so much better if he had been excommunicated 10 years ago.

What sort of short sighted “love” allows a wolf to actively devour the sheep and still leaves them in the flock?

Sadly, I think many believe it is the love of the Savior. As if he doesn’t stand behind his own word
concerning apostasy.

Every form of church leadership, including parenthood, carries with it the joy to be had in saving souls, but accountability for those we fail in our leadership. We are not accountable for their choices. But we are certainly accountable for keeping a known wolf in our flock.

I am thankful that I am not the Bishop or the Stake president who will explain to God why John Dehlin was kept in the flock while publicly, actively, and constantly leading others out of the church.

They cannot miss the tally at the judgment bar. It must be faced.
