I wrote this in a recent post, but it was too long, and this was near the end, and I thought it deserved a more prominent location, so I am copying it here.
Ironically, forgetting that God will not be mocked, and that we anger him when we are wicked, cuts us of from the abundance of the manifestations of his love. We are too willing to rationalize and excuse ourselves with a God we believe doesn’t mind our misbehavior.
And thus we speak of his love not because we are enjoying the full benefits of it, but because we believe it allows us to misbehave without consequence. And, consequently, we enjoy only a trickle of the bounty and the real manifestations of his love that he intends for his saints.
