I heard a teacher in the ward praised today. The praise was that no matter how the conversation in a class diverged from the original lesson material, the teacher was always able to bring the class back to the lesson topic.
I think that is an interesting notion of a virtue. It is worth comparing that with the scriptures.
D&C 42:14 And the Spirit shall be given unto you by the prayer of faith; and if ye receive not the Spirit ye shall not teach.
D&C 84:85 Neither take ye thought beforehand what ye shall say; but treasure up in your minds continually the words of life, and it shall be given you in the very hour that portion that shall be meted unto every man.
D&C 50:17 Verily I say unto you, he that is ordained of me and sent forth to preach the word of truth by the Comforter, in the Spirit of truth, doth he preach it by the Spirit of truth or some other way?
18 And if it be by some other way it is not of God.
Sure, a class discussion may very well not match the direction of the Holy Ghost. That is common enough. But I can’t help think this is praise for an ability to enforce bureaucracy rather than for one’s ability to listen to the Holy Ghost and to teach by his power.
