Freedom lost

When we won the war for independence we created a truly free society. The constitution then forged that free society into a county of free men.

But we are losing our freedoms.

With each new loss, we think nothing of the matter. It is as if we had a million dollars and we are so enamored with our fortune that we don’t mind being robbed of $5 every hour. We feel so rich that we think “What is a loss like that to a man of such means as ourselves, we think?

And twenty five years later we wander the streets, having already been penniless two years, the whole fortune being stolen away.

We are exactly like that. You can tell a good man that such and such a law takes away freedoms from people, and it doesn’t matter two figs to him. We do not value our freedom. We think we have so much of it, what is the loss of yet another small portion.

We have become a society that doesn’t prize freedom, and thus we cannot keep it.
