There is only one true and living church on the earth, and it is the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I am deeply concerned that we are taking it for granted. We seem to think the church is safe because it is vast and well organized. We feel great confidence because of the number of members, wards and stakes, and the growing number of temples. We also feel confidence because it is so well organized.
But we are taking it for granted in a dangerous way. We seem, more and more, to feel that the church is supposed to be taking on people who are being bad so that we can heal them.
The scriptures are perfectly plain that a man who is viewing pornography will not have the spirit, and will deny the faith, and will fear, and that it was actually for this very reason that the Lord declared that those who fear will have their place in the lake of fire and brimstone. That is the meaning of these verses.
D&C 63:16 And verily I say unto you, as I have said before, he that looketh on a woman to lust after her, or if any shall commit adultery in their hearts, they shall not have the Spirit, but shall deny the faith and shall fear.
17 Wherefore, I, the Lord, have said that the fearful, and the unbelieving, and all liars, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie, and the whoremonger, and the sorcerer, shall have their part in that lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
The word “wherefore” that connects the two verses shows the relationship between them. It is because those who look upon a woman to lust after her shall deny the faith and shall fear that the Lord included “the fearful” in his list of those who would have their part in that lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Can those who are involved in pornography escape hell without repentance? They cannot. And it is the churches responsibility to cast such souls off unless they repent.
But we have taken on the ideas of psychology. They have overwhelmed us. They have almost entirely consumed many of us. Thus, rather than blaming the person for his sins, and requiring that he repent or be cut off, many of us think the pornography addict is a victim.
It is true that cutting people off out of our midst is painful to us. Christ compared it to cutting off our hand.
But he said it was better for us for us to do so, and thereby enter into heaven, than to keep our hand and enter into hell.
Matthew 18:8 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee; it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having wo eyes to be cast into hell fire.
9 And a man’s hand is his friend, and his foot, also; and a man’s eye are they of his own household.
The same is true for the various forms of gender apostasy. We must cut them off if they will not repent.
